The Collaboration
Earlier this summer, Wendy Murray, an artist from Australia, stopped by our studio hoping to make a print. Murray first heard about Self Help Graphics & Art from printmakers back home. She is the first artist from Australia to visit our studio since the 1980s. When she first arrived to our space she was instantly introduced to Dewey Tafoya. The pair sat down and had an open discussion about their lives. They talked about everything from job insecurity to high rents to their art practices. The Colby Poster Printing Company had an impact on visual culture in Los Angeles.... but exactly how much of an impact? I'm on a mission to find Colby posters in their natural habitat in movies and documentaries. So far - 8 movies watched - I've come close but no confirmed sightings. However, I have seen some fantastic movies and spotted some incredible historic murals and graffiti.

The Drawing Exchange

The Drawing Exchange is a collaboration between the nation’s top art schools, bringing together 22 artists from around Australia to produce new works drawn directly onto the walls of Adelaide Central School of Art and the National Art School in Sydney.

At once an exhibition and open studio, The Drawing Exchange will see drawings made live at each venue, allowing audiences rare opportunities to engage with artists as they work. The project aims to foreground the drawing process, and highlight the inherently human act of drawing and the tension between personal creativity and public display.  more details ...
