Three drawings in three days - Castlemaine, Victoria, Australia.
Yes, Love is hard work, 2018, 7 x 11 cm (tiny posters) on fluro card, edition 50
On Friday 4 May I'll be in Castlemaine installing the public art commission 'Yes, Love is Hard Work'. If you live locally, drop by and say hello - I've printed these little cuties for you!
Following the positive theme set by local artist Steve Parsons earlier this year, this poster series contains a positive message but is also a protest poster. This year celebrates 100 years since the birth of the most amazing women I (unfortunately) didn't get the chance to meet, Corita Kent (1918-1986).
1985 Corita was asked to design a postage stamp in 1980. After several years in limbo, the design is issued. The unveiling takes place on the Love Boat. Furious, Corita refuses to attend saying that was not the kind of love she meant. She had wanted the stamp to be unveiled at the United Nations. In response she makes the work love is hard work. Corita Art Center, Los Angeles USA
Time: 11am-4PM, Friday 4 May
Location: Mechanics Lane, opposite the Castlemaine Library
(If it's raining I will install the following day. I'm in town until Monday)
This exhibition has been supported by the Mount Alexander Shire Council , with special thanks to Waverley Council Artist Studios.
14-20 May 2018
For seven days, the Bondi Pavilion Gallery will become a project space for Waverley Studios Artist Wendy Murray, while she works on her Daily drawings. The Pavilion project space will host a collaborative drawing project with a group of young artists from St Clare's Collage. Visit me if you're in the Bondi area.
