PIR - WEEK 4 IN THE FISHER LIBRARY by Wendy Murray

Lots of last minute drawing done this week - we made a few changes to the interior colour image layout, which we're excited about...but more drawings needed to be done. This Tuesday at Urban Crew our own Alistair Sisson presented “Centring territorial stigma in the social housing system” - it was excellent and all the best to Al for his presentation at the UK conference next week - you will be awesome! On Wednesday we had the first open studio at the library. A bunch of folks came down to check out the press and the publication project, which was the highlight of the week. The rest of my time was spent preparing the digital artwork - it needs to be at the printer (digitalpress) by Monday!
NB: If you missed out this time, come along to the second open studio on the 14th September - register here

PIR - WEEK 3 IN THE FISHER LIBRARY / PISCATOR PRESS STUDIO by Wendy Murray

This week past quickly! On the weekend I screen printed the promo poster in two sizes for everyone - I had great fun printing full sheet litho again! The letterpress text translates magnificently in a larger scale through the screen print medium. Monday I had the idea to shoot the poster in the street & with the help of Sarah Lorien - we did it!! A great relief to have completed the development, design, printing and photography for the book launch online marketing. Working on the Sydney Uni campus meant I could get to the Tuesday Urban Crew lecture, where Gareth Edwards presented his paper (co-authored with Harriet Bulkeley, 2018) Heterotopia and the urban politics of climate change experimentation, which was thought provoking. I managed to get some drawing time in and a field trip to Waterloo to draw one of the social housing buildings for the DISPOSSESSIONS chapter of the book. Most of the week was spent reading and re-reading the essay writing - trying to tease out the perfect words and visualise the accompanying drawings. I also managed a couple of afternoons printing - and invited some of the Urban Crew to watch - leaving with snippet souvenir prints, including typos! The last print off the Albion this week - 4PM Friday afternoon - YOU HAVE THE POWER TO TAKE YOUR CITY BACK! The perfect way to end another terrific week working from the Piscator Press, University of Sydney !

PIR - WEEK 2 IN THE FISHER LIBRARY PRESS STUDIO by Wendy Murray

Setting lead takes time!!
After the urban crew dropped by to review the book and sign-off on a few things, I've had time to set the first print. The crew commissioned a promo flyer and poster for the Festival of Urbanism launch. I have set the copy in Garamond Light Roman 12pt. This compliments the 24pt Grotesque (SYDNEY WE NEED TO TALK!) logotype developed last week. Last night I scanned and enlarged the type for the poster - we'll be printing it in 2 sizes; Colby (14" x 22") and Full Sheet Litho (102cm x 72cm). I'll start printing them today at SCA. The Colby size posters will be available on for sale on my website next week. #staytuned
