Dobell Drawing Prize

The Dobell Drawing Prize is an acquisitive art award that runs in alternative years to the Dobell Australian Drawing Biennial at the Art Gallery of New South Wales. The Dobell is the most pretentious drawing award in Australia.

But you don’t have to embrace technology to be ‘new drawing’. One of my personal favourites among the finalists is the work of Wendy Murray, which is the epitome of traditional drawing. However she, like Leigh, has turned drawing into a performed experience.

The Subterranean Geography in Australia Symposium event brought together “underground” and “underwater” geography scholars in Australia in order to discuss and identify key Australian-related themes for the“subterranean turn.”
