Led by artist Wendy Murray, with artists Sima Alikhani, Saqlain Binte Saleh and Jay Kay Wassell, ‘The Poster Centre’ offers free screen-printing workshops for all ages at three Blacktown City Libraries and a drop-in print studio at Blacktown Arts.

‘The Poster Centre’ is an opportunity to share in the history of the renowned ‘Garage Graphix’ print workshop – a grassroots printing movement active in Blacktown from 1981 – 1998.

This project is supported by Create NSW’s Audience Development Fund, a devolved funding program administered by Museums & Galleries of NSW on behalf of the NSW Government.

Outcomes delivered by the Poster Centre

  • Community-based open print studio program design

  • 3 local artists mentored by master printmaker Wendy Murray

  • 10 mobile workshops

  • 18 studio workshops

  • 28 workshops across 4 venues
    (Blacktown Arts Centre, Dennis Johnson Library, Max Webber Library, Mt Druitt Hub)

  • 331 posters made by community

  • Exhibition of selected posters through 3 platforms (LKBAC gallery, Made in Blacktown public art project, Political Posters Now exhibition)

The Poster Centre travels to 4 regional libraries


AIR AT THE UNIVERSITY OF HAWAIʻI AT MĀNOA GONE SERIES

Street poster edition. 30 of each print on the street, 10 for collectors / 11 x 17” / acrylic screenprint on 100gsm litho / 2 separations. Printed at University of Hawai’i at Mānoa, September 2022.

Printed while AIR at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Printmaking Department. Three poster series in response to the high tourism and digital nomad footprint on the environment in Hawai’i. These posters were made in response to UOH talking to students about tourism and the effects of covid on their islands.

100 poster sets were installed on the streets of Los Angeles, CA USA.

Three poster collaboration with Post-graduate artist Mari Matsuda. We discussed the differences and challenges faced as a freelance, full time artist in Australia and USA. The three main areas where the Australian system is more supportive (but still not perfect!) included healthcare, employment, and retirement.
